Description: A core value of Girl Scouts is to empower girls to be leaders and raise their voices!  One of the simplest ways for girls & women to be civically engaged in their communities is through voting - but how much do girls understand about the voting process?  This virtual, 7-week "Future Voter" series is designed to teach Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors the ins and outs of the voting process so that when the time comes, they will be prepared to be actively engaged.  Participants will also learn about democracy and how they can be involved in the local, state and national elections going on right now.  Zoom meetings will be held every Monday from 6:30-7:30 (EST), starting September 14th and ending October 26th.  Specific topics to be covered are included below:

  • Week 1 - Levels of Government & Lobbying
  • Week 2 - The Parties
  • Week 3 - Primary Process & Nomination Process
  • Week 4 - Convention
  • Week 5 - Popular Vote vs. Electoral College
  • Week 6 - The U.S. Census & Gerrymandering
  • Week 7 - Term Limits & Program Wrap-up
  • How Girl Scouts can participate on election days (to be discussed at each session)
