Cadette Program Aide (CPA) Course
Earn your first Mentoring Award!

Cadettes, would you like to help younger Girl Scouts by sharing your skills, passions, and experiences? Would you like to build your leadership skills? Would you like a foundation to understand leadership roles and the skills to help you handle different situations?

Then come to a Cadette Program Aide (CPA) workshop! We will review how to work with younger girls on different activities and settings.  Teens who earn mentoring awards are given a special opportunity to serve as champions for the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. As they serve in their roles, Cadettes can help grow awareness of Girl Scouting’s aim to deliver fun with purpose: enjoyable and challenging activities that grow girls’ leadership in their daily lives and in the world.

REQUIRED: All participants must bring a completed Parent Permission (#2134), Health History Form (#2072), a note pad and pencil and a bag lunch and drink.

Girls can pursue their CPA if:

They take this Cadette Program Aide course designed by our council

arrow1-right_purple_32 They work with younger girls over six activity sessions or in a day camp setting (day camp setting open to rising 8th graders only!)

During the course, girls will learn a variety of risk management skills, teaching techniques, leadership skills, and basic outdoor skills that will help them thrive as a G.I.R.L.!

At the end of this course, girls should be able to:

  • Describe themselves as leaders in their lives and in the world and be able to describe examples of their leadership.
  • Understand what the Girl Scout Leadership Experience means and how it helps girls become leaders in their daily lives - and in the world!
  • Learn how younger girls develop physically and emotionally.
  • Cadettes will come to understand how the needs, interests, and capabilities of younger girls can change. Program Aides will begin to think about how younger girls can be leaders in their lives based on their developmental characteristics.
  • At the end of this session girls will be able to apply the 12 Safety Standards to activities they facilitate with younger girls.
  • Employ all they have learned about themselves as leaders and younger girls so they may facilitate activities aimed at outcomes that provide fun with purpose.
  • Work with a troop at their meetings or with younger girls during special council or service unit events (Rising 6th grade girls and up!)
  • Work with younger girls in a day camp setting (Rising 8th graders only!) Girls must also complete camp-specific training that is required before working with younger girls in a camp setting.  Please contact the Camp Director for more questions about the required training.
